In 2017 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, then-freshman Toni Pino, a pre-health major, with the help of Drew Spadaro, an actuarial science major, created The Red Keys at the beginning of the spring semester. After its founding, The Red Keys became an established registered student organization (RSO) at the university, holding auditions and beginning practices and arrangements.
Even as non-music majors, Toni and Drew started the group because they missed making music in college.
“It’s one of my favorite things to do,” Pino said. “I just wanted to find more people that had that same passion.”

"This group had much more energy than the others — the voices sounded balanced and the background performers were always smiling and moving, making it much more interesting to watch and listen." - Libby Schilz
